Hey there, neighbor! So, yesterday was quite a day in Abilene and the surrounding areas. It seems like the weather has been a bit of a mixed bag lately, and while we had some rainfall, it’s important to remember that the Texas A&M Forest Service has put a burn ban in place for 16 counties in the Big Country. Even with the recent showers, it looks like we still need to be cautious with outdoor burning, so if you were thinking about that backyard bonfire, it might be best to hold off for now.
In more exciting news, the Colorado City Airport was buzzing with activity as it hosted the inaugural West Texas Mile. Racers from all over the country gathered to compete in this unique one-mile land speed event, and it turned into a real family-friendly affair as well. The atmosphere was electric, with families enjoying the thrill of watching these speedy machines zoom down the runway. It’s great to see our neighboring towns bringing in events that not only showcase local talent but also attract visitors to our beautiful part of Texas.
And of course, we can’t forget about Friday night football! With Week 9 of the season wrapping up, local high school teams were out there giving it their all, and the scores are in. If you missed the games, it’s worth checking in on how our teams fared. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just enjoy the camaraderie, there’s something special about Friday nights in the fall that brings everyone together.
So, all in all, it was a day filled with community spirit and excitement. Stay safe out there, keep an eye on those burn bans, and maybe catch a football game or two this weekend!
